Just got a new iPad. I have Opera on Android, which has Reader Mode. Can’t see one on iPad. I know Safari has it but would prefer to use Opera if possible.

RE: Opera One alternativesLounge
@A Former User said in Opera One alternatives:
In my user case I haven't found any alternative that really fits my needs.
In software applications in general, I never find one that's better than all others in all respects. It always comes down to what is best overall. And that changes over time. Right now Vivaldi is my default and Opera is No. 2 (or sometimes Brave if I want to quickly check something when I'm unauthenticated).
But it used to be Opera 1, Vivaldi 2. Before that it was Firefox 1.
This is on desktop. On mobile usability and feature differences aren't as big an issue.

RE: Why are people so emotional about browsers?Lounge
@blackbird71 said in Why are people so emotional about browsers?:
In any case, users should employ whatever browser best suits their wants/needs and not be afraid to try other brands - especially to find out if there's better ways the user's particular browsing style and demands can be implemented. Personally, being of a technical nature, I want certain adjustability controls and have certain levels of privacy that I demand, so I tend to favor a particular brand of browser - but I have 6 others currently installed which I use from time to time, if only to stay abreast of unique developments.
That's pretty much me. But I don't slag off other users' preferences. Each to their own. Market share is irrelevant unless it means the tiny vendors will go out of business. In the meantime, I choose based on what suits me.

RE: I'm always coming back to OperaLounge
It's ultimately all subjective. The features that each browser has are objective, but the value you attach to each feature is subjective.

RE: Upgrade to GPT4?Feedback
@sicu220 Since Aria is free, I'm guessing that they won't update to GPT-4 until GPT-4 is free, which I assume will be when OpenAI release GPT-5.
Some other Chats provide some access to GPT-4 but with prompt limits per day or whatever.
Microsoft Copilot (formerly Bing Chat) uses GPT-4.

RE: Opera 100.0.4815.76 Stable updateBlogs
@kuroodo: I switched to Vivaldi some time ago (and this was pre-Opera One) for a couple of reasons. Prior to this, Vivaldi had been No. 2. It's now Vivaldi 1 Opera 2. One of the reasons I switched was because I started getting into the Chat AIs and various extensions would not work in Opera while they did in Vivaldi. There was another reason that I can't remember now. I've not noticed any performance issues. Someone else mentioned that it was buggy. Well, the only major problem I've encountered is random crashing when I click on certain links. The UI just disappears! It hasn't happened for a while but it was about once every week or two. The last time it happened I restarted and clicked back on the same link and it was fine.
However, for me, the best Opera was before they switched to the horizontal tab cycler. The vertical tab cycler was the major reason I switched to Opera from Firefox in the first place! Also there was an earlier version of tab search which I thought was better than it is now. For a short while the changes were customisable. Anyway, I still stuck with Opera after what I considered usability regressions. But then a tipping point arrived. I also have Brave, Edge and Chrome on my desktop. And Firefox is still on my laptop but not PC. I do occasionally run up Edge and Brave for specific purposes. But for overall customisability I'm happy with Vivaldi - but nothing is cast in stone. In general I've not found any one browser to be better in all aspects. So, for me it's always a question of which is best for me overall.
Ah, yes I remember what reason 2 was. I wanted to set Brave as default search engine, which is not possible in Opera (I assume that's still the case). I could set a shortcut to brave in the address bar. However, I also wanted the autosuggest feature to be accessible which was not via that method. But in Vivaldi I can have both - Brave as default and autosuggest.

RE: Add Presearch as a default search optionSuggestions and feature requests
@nbvdv It's a longstanding request for Opera to allow any search engine as default. I've recently switched to Vivaldi as default (it's been my No. 2 for a few years). One reason for doing so was that I'd reached the point where I could not set Brave Search as default, having decided I wanted to use it instead of DuckDuckGo. Other reasons are to do with some key Chat AI extensions that don't work with Opera.
However, it doesn't mean I don't still use Opera. I have several browsers installed on various devices.

RE: Redacting search enginesOpera for Windows
@dumbldor Given your situation your best bet is to try Vivaldi where you have complete flexibility in this area. And Vivaldi has a lot in common with Opera in terms of features, so you wouldn't find it that alien. I regularly hop between Opera and Vivaldi depending on what I'm doing.
I'm assuming there aren't some weird restrictions on Vivaldi in Russia though!

RE: How to make Startpage my Default Search EngineOpera for Windows
@bklynkid Since you can't set it as default the next best thing is to use a keyboard shortcut in the address bar. E.g., s "search query."
E.g., here's my setup
Inflexibility in setting default search is a long-standing complaint. Opera should just exactly copy Vivaldi on this.

RE: Allow disabling of default search engine hotkeysSuggestions and feature requests
@pheonixflame2130 I just tried "b positive" (including quotes) with DuckDuckGo as default and it did a DuckDuckGo search. Also works with Google as default. In fact, I think you only need the start quote.
Anyway, that's the workaround until Opera decides to allow editability in this area.

RE: I don't care about cookiesOpera add-ons
@A Former User said in I don't care about cookies:
The extension does not differentiate between information related to cookies and legitimate information (for example, an order confirmation message or a form error message, etc.), which prevents the proper functioning of most sites.
I've never noticed this. Maybe some sites don't function. Certainly not "most."

RE: Bitwarden - Free Password ManagerOpera add-ons
@A Former User said in Bitwarden - Free Password Manager:
Yeah Opera is so overloaded with settings and options and such a resource hog I uninstalled it which was sad. Trying to definitely get away from Chrome but also FF as it's kind of a resource hog but still using it and Vivaldi.
Not many options left then as it's either Firefox and its forks or Chromium-based browsers or Safari!
The fact is they all use a lot of memory, to some extent by design. If you have sufficient memory on your device it doesn't matter. I've tried a variety of browsrs over the years and have several installed and tbh I've never worried a bout them being "resource hogs."

RE: How to enhance your browsing with AI Prompts in OperaBlogs
@baligo Do you not see this in Easy Setup (click icon at top right of toolbar)

RE: How to enhance your browsing with AI Prompts in OperaBlogs
@baligo You can enable it via early access. I can't remember offhand how. But I found it doesn't work, so I disabled it again.

RE: Microsoft Bing AI Resolution on Opera BrowserOpera for Windows
@rcastel I get the same and briefly even worse! I was on the same Opera and Chromium versions. However, it then auto-updated
Version:97.0.4719.43
Chromium version:111.0.5563.111But no change.
However, in Opera, shouldn't it also be showing the Chat link, even if you're not signed in?
E.g., I just loaded the Bing page in Brave (not signed in) and it shows he Chat link.

RE: AI Prompts Not WorkingOpera for Windows
@himmelssheriff Since I can't get Opera's native solution to work yet I've gone with the one I mentioned that does a similar job. In Vivaldi I use some other extensions, though mainly the Bing Chat for All Browsers one. But none of them work in Opera.
Yes you can just go to the ChatGPT page but I'm the kind of user who likes convenience and not having to change context when possible.
In terms of Bing Chat you can only access it directly from Edge unless you use the Bing Chat extension or equivalent.

RE: AI Prompts Not WorkingOpera for Windows
@newworldman I've disabled it for now but in the meantime, by chance, I've discovered this excellent extension.
UseChatGPT.AI: Free Copilot on Chrome (GPT-4 ✓)
"Free Chrome extension to write, rephrase, summarize, translate, or explain any text on any website without copy-pasting using ChatGPT & GPT-4 AI."
Unlike some others it actually works in Opera.
You will need to be logged into ChatGPT. But if you're not it takes you to the login first and then continues with whatever command you invoked.

RE: AI Prompts Not WorkingOpera for Windows
@lavanyadeepak-0 In my case I can get ChatGPT to open but it errors "Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com."
However, when I clicked Regenerate Response it gave a decent answer.
This is with Opera 97 Stable with early access enabled.
I'll try a few more experiments.

@vegelund You can resize vertically, but you can't drag (at least not on Windows).
