My cursor keeps flashing back and forth between its default and loading state, flashing the loading icon about 8-12 times a second, even though pages are fully loaded and as far as I can tell, Opera isn't attempting to do anything else in the background. (This only happens while Opera is open so I'm certain it has something to do with it and not any other application in the background). It's persistent the entire time I'm using Opera and doesn't resolve itself until I close the browser.

In addition, Opera seems to be taking up way more memory in use immediately after launch now. Around 350mb with only one tab open (this forum post submission), and pages are loading far slower than they did prior to this issue.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail, please let me know if there are any more methods to attempt or if this is a known bug.

Same here. Opera actually freeze the SoundCloud website whenever I scroll through songs. The cursor with loading flickering is new, probably after the new version update. I don't know what happened, but I'm sure this is not a desired change from everyone...

Now, after a Windows update, Opera isn't loading (to speed dial) at all. The window consists of a blank white screen and the same flickering cursor and spike in memory usage. Reinstalling had no change this time either.

Getting this as well from today - will do it whenever I perform most actions (new tab, load page, click link etc.) Also failed to load Twitch for a bit, but now it can again - no idea what's going on.

Same problem. Makes https://yandex.ru/maps/ and https://www.google.com/maps/ completely unusable. https://soundcloud.com/ has this problem too but it's less intense.

Problem seems to be connected to loading new data, and while it happens opera's task manager goes insane with tasks flickering all over the place. Flickering stops when everything is loaded, but comes back when new information needs to be loaded i.e. new map region or new song.

Bug only appeared in newest version. Never had this problem before.

Edit: hardware acceleration was off. enabling it fixed the problem

Attempted to check hardware acceleration, but after a complete clean uninstall and reinstall from an offline package, Opera won't even start.

A blank window is loaded before the process stalls at around ~30-50mb memory usage, along with the original flickering cursor problem.

Same thing here. Kind of annoying , but, seemingly, not serious.

                      Hi,

I am also getting this issue. It definitely has to do with loading new info. Aside from Soundcloud I am also getting the issue on https://rateyourmusic.com/ and https://www.dominos.ca/ (this is escpecially apparent on the ordering menu. Clicking another topping completely freezes the browser for me). I've tried the same stuff on Waterfox and am not getting these issues.

Another thing I noticed was that when it's flickering like this it is impossible to close the tab. In some extreme cases when I had 4 or 5 tabs of Soundcloud open it froze the entire browser and stopped the music playing.

Is there any way to turn hardware acceleration on outside of the browser window? I currently can't launch Opera at all, or at least get past the resulting white screen when I try.

Did you disable it before? It should be enabled by default.

I guess there is a command line but I don't remember it now. Try searching for Chromium command lines.

leo, on my Opera, HA was turned off even after the last update. I have since turned it on.

What I find troubling about HA is the fact that someone reports a problem and the experts say turn ON/OFF HA.

I really wish Opera would get their act together on this issue.

Im getting the same thing on google maps UK with both HA on and off.

Just come back to Opera after years. I gave it up because it was so hopelessly buggy. Looks like its still in that awful state.

Disabling hardware acceleration is/should be just a workaround and not the final solution.

I guess that most probably Chromium would need to do it.

I'm almost certain I left HA enabled prior to the latest update.

Clearly if this is a bug, it's not exclusive to me either, given the other instances brought up in this thread.

For lack of any recent updates or accessible workarounds, I've gone over to Firefox for time being.

I had this too. Enabling HA seems fix it. But this is kind of bad, i have for now super bad gpu, and watching any video stream in high quality is slowing it down hard, just cpu is much faster and i can watch on it without any problem. Could be good to fix it.

Same thing for me after the latest update, and as described above, turning hardware acceleration back ON made it go away. Bit wary of what is actually going on in the background though, for this to just start outta nowhere.

I am having this issue as well. I have HA turned on. It is especially bad when I try to use Zillow to look for a house or apartment. Normally the house page will load over Google Maps and to show pictures, etc. However, in it's present state, the page will never stop loading, I get a blue circle that keeps spinning. the loading indicator on the tab continues to spin and it basically freezes the browser. It takes numerous clicks to close the tab. None of this happens in Edge or Firefox. Opera has been my browser of choice for the last year of so due to its speed. But this is very annoying. Hopefully, this can get corrected soon.

                                            Hardware Acceleration = ON

                                            • Randomly can't move the window and switch tabs using a Wacom tablet. (Windows 10 only - Windows 7 and 8.1 are OK)

                                            Hardware Acceleration = OFF

                                            • YouTube is OK.
                                            • Wacom driver is OK.
                                            • This problem appears - Flickering / Flashing pointer

So, I either can't use my Wacom tablet, or I'm getting this Flickering / Flashing pointer.

Currently I'm testing Vivaldi. But it doesn't have portable version by default (which I really need), and turning Hardware Acceleration OFF is only via command line when starting.
