So I installed Opera recently having heard that despite running on the same core it is less resource hungry than Chrome. I have the latest x64 stable builds of both Opera and Chrome installed. I wanted to compare memory usage of both browsers at startup. In the built-in task manager, both browsers have a 'Browser' task (which is the core task, I suppose). I noticed that Opera's 'Browser' task uses around 168 MB memory while Chrome's 'Browser' task uses only 63 MB memory. Rest of the tasks (GPU process and extensions) use similar amount of memory. So, Opera uses around 100 MB more memory at the beginning than Chrome and as I keep on browsing this scenario doesn't change much. Then why is it called less resource hungry than Chrome?
