I was just had a concern that I wanted to highlight. Firstly Opera is a great browser, it is my primary browser.
It has many great privacy features - Send a Do Not Track header, Built in Adblocker, VPN.
It is thus surprising to me, that such a privacy orientated browser, would have a built in mandatory website checker that sends the website you are going to, to a third party. There is no advance setting to switch this off. The only way I know of blocking it, is to use the HOSTS file and block the website it sends it to.
This does seem at odds with their chosen take on privacy. So I was wondering if there were any plans to implement an advanced setting to stop the site checking.
Also I did wonder where the data was being processed. Is it processed within the EU (where data regulations are pretty strict) or is it sent somewhere else where they may have more lax data regulations, for instance China. (I mention China because a chinese consortium, I believe, now has a majority stake in Opera).
