@s390g2 Thanks for your suggestion but I did not have VPN (Opera's or any other) activated.

Gmail Access IssuesOpera for Windows
I am running into a frequent problem that may force me to abandon Opera. Gmail frequently (~2x/day) stops working because (1) it is "connecting" ad nauseum when I have a perfectly operative internet connection, or (2) I get locked our of my Gmail account ("Unusual Usage - Account Temporarily Locked Down").
When the problem is the connection, I can open a new tab and Gmail resumes to working properly. When I am locked out, I cannot access Gmail from Opera for hours, but can access it on my Android handset, other computers and even on the same computer using Chrome/Firefox/Edge.
I never encounter this problem when accessing Gmail in any other browser and it caused unacceptable interruptions to my workflow . I anybody has a solution, I would be grateful.
P.S. I have already tried clearing cache and cookies (multiple times) in Opera and disabling all extensions. The problem still occurs.
RE: Automatically Opening Downloaded FilesOpera for Windows
I also miss this vital feature. No satisfactory explanation has been given by Opera for this deficiency (other than the standard "for security reasons" excuse).
There is one extension that accomplishes half of what you're asking, namely:
It saves the file to a temporary location and then opens it. In my case, I chose the Desktop as the temporary location, so every now and then I get a folder called somethi8ng like "temporary download folder" on my Desktop. If you click a file but then decide not to open it, the extension deletes the file from your hard drive again. This can be bothersome if you think you've downloaded a file, and then discover that the file isn't there where you've seen it just a moment ago, and you have to figure out where to download it from again (because unlike in Opera 12, the current Opera doesn't keep a history of all visited pages).
Thanks for that suggestion. I'll check it out.
Automatically Opening Downloaded FilesOpera for Windows
I am test driving Opera for the first time, having used Firefox and Chrome for many years. One disappointment I'm having with Opera is the fact that downloaded .pdf, .xls/.xlsx and .doc/.docx files do not automatically open after downloading. (I have .pdfs set to open in a separate application.) Is there a way to accomplish this or is it simply the Opera way?
Thanks for your help.
