I don't really understand why we have to bookmark first in this version, it' not a progress imho

You don't have bookmark to put something in the Speed Dial. When I right click on a web page, I get an option to put something in the speed dial. Also, you can click the "+" on the speed dial, and then put in the web address of the location you want to appear on the dial.

Then of course, to create a folder in the speed dial, just drag one speed dial item on top of another, but everyone, I'm sure, knows that already.

It seems, though, that shelluser's way gives you an option to create the thumbnail or icon of your choice for the dial. The other ways seem to limit you to thumbnails.

The feature returns in newer builds, which are currently in testing.

Bear with me, I'm a pretty new user to Opera 29 myself but I can confirm that you can still add bookmarks to speed dial. This is how I managed to sort this out:

Open the site you want to add and be sure that the heart (bookmark) icon is visible behind the address bar

Click said icon and then you should see a preview of the site. You can use the left/right arrows to switch between them.

When you found the preview you'd like then click the 'add to speed dial' icon at the top right screen of the preview.

That should cover it. You can double check by opening the speed dial screen.

Hope this helps!
