<![CDATA[A few suggestions for the Speed Dial]]>It's been 14 versions already and things haven't changed much.

First off, it'd be nice if instead of "maximum number of columns" we have "fixed number of columns". This way the layout won't change when you resize the window and each individual thumbnail will scale down to fit the new size. Visual memory is key here - if I have a 5*3 layout and I know that a certain site's thumbnail is in the top right corner, I want it to be there when I make the window smaller.

Second, scaling - even on a 1680*1050 px screen, 7 columns won't fill the available space. It would be nice to be able to set the size of the Speed Dial to fit 100% of the available space (or a smaller percent for the people that still prefer it the way it is now).

Third - that plus button should be removable. If I have a 5*3 layout that's filled, the plus button would take another row by itself. Wouldn't hurt to have it in the context menu instead.

Fourth - empty spots. If I am, for example, setting up a new installation and I want this or that site to be in a specific position, I want to be able to place it there even if the layout isn't full yet.

Fifth - customisability in general. If the whole layout is based on HTML and CSS now, why not make it editable for the folks that want to mess with it?

I have just had a forced update to Opera 29 and the quick dial which I love and have relied on for so long is utterly ruined. It is just so ugly and looks like a cheap, flat, sub version. It used to have thumnails of the sites themselves and a good look. It is so ugly I may well go back to Firefox.
Why, why, why must Opera try to follow the crowds and look like Windows 8? It is ugly and utterly ruined. A terrible choice.

You can still have full site thumbnails, You can change the thumbnails via the heart menu like so: http://imgur.com/k9uZKgG,FhrRB3P,YX2mJoH#0
There seems to be some kind of bug with migrating from the old to new speed dial where for some people it reverts their thumbnails, on both machines that I updated from opera 28 > 29 all my dials retained their full site thumbnails

In this line of thought, I'd be nice to be able to change thumbnails directly from the Speed Dial.
It would also be nice to use the text thumbnail generation algorithms to make thumbnails with custom text and/or colours, although I see this very, very unlikely to happen.
A setting in the sense of "always use full site previews for thumbnails" or "always use text-based thumbnails" would come in handy.
