We just released Opera 29.

If you’ve followed our beta releases, you probably won’t be surprised to see that we’re replacing Off-Road mode with Opera Turbo in this release. Opera Turbo has been with us for a long time in the company, but this release features our second-generation technology, which offers great advantages. Not only does Opera Turbo give you great data savings, but it also provides a full HTML5 browsing experience with maximum site compatibility.

You may notice the savings dial reports slightly less savings now, but the actual data transferred over the wire does not differ much, since Opera Turbo uses the cached data much more effectively than Off-Road mode did.

Our text-wrap feature is now polished to the stage where we’re comfortable turning it on for all our new users by default.

We’re also continuing to add features to our sync service. This time, we’ve added a way to sync your devices’ open tabs.

This release contains:

Tab synchronization, including a new view for synced tabs and a new layout in the tab manager

Improved text wrap (now enabled by default for new users)

64-bit support

A new progress bar

Opera Turbo (replacing Off-Road mode)

A Chromium upgrade to version 42

Various stability and usability improvements

The update has been pushed to Google Play and should be available very soon. Please download Opera 29 for Android from Google Play and leave us your feedback.

It seems that accelerated 2d canvas feature (or flag) is not enabled by default and that can kill transitions in respect for link redirections (GP spam, autostarts) but will come around after few sessions. Well, 2d canvas doesn't have an implicite value and transitions flag is not present since chrome41 so I could guess that this behavior depends by app itself or chrome dev.

I don't follow... accelerated canvas, link redirections, spam, "autostarts"... what is the connection here?

If I tell you that Opera 16 it was the only version without animated menu until 29 final then you can't follow that either. BTW, GPU info can provide kernel data instead Android v (Opera 14-16) on nexus devices and I'm wondering what is the connection too.

I'd like to know how does Turbo works. When I turned images off with old offroad they did not load, ok. But with turbo they actually load in some websites even when I disabled it (facebook, for example). Usually my 3g is so unstable and slow, that this new mode is not the best for me (I downloaded mini, in fact). Images load trhough cache? Or is something else? Thx.

Correct, if there's content in the cache it will be used by Turbo. In Mini/OffRoad the whole page is downloaded as a single resource so if images are off then they won't show... there's no cache.

I've changed, for mobile data, it cost me 33MB than usual 13MB. I can feel the difference clearly.
So I have to degrade to 28 and data saving seems come back.

The new Turbo compression is better because it uses local cache and can render all websites properly.
If you want extreme compression and the full web broken you can use Opera Mini.

Thank you, I will keep 28. For Opera Mini, I hope it will add full screen feature in the future.
