opera is not what it used to be

  • OK, I got it. Three clicks instead of two + not so comfy like an old trash can, but maybe I'll get used to it.

Like I said, in the Development build a thing similar to the trashcan is coming. Its a combined system with other features though so it will still take you three clicks to open a closed tab.

But that job is done. It just needs to be implemented. 2 years is enough.

I doubt you could get more than 2 people on this forum to agree on what features need to be added sooner rather than later. What makes you think the devs have the same priorities as you?

I'm not a developer, but, I think, they make much more sophisticated software (from scratch) than, for example, "recently closed tabs" function out there.

Like I said, they have other priorities. You are free to contribute though, thats what the extension feature is for. While you may not be a programmer yourself you are free to hire one to make any changes you want. You know what they say: put your money where your mouth is.

They just got rid of the old Opera, and named Chrome Opera 15, and this is strange. They should keep developing until (at least) implementing most important old functionalities, and then release new Opera IMHO (with new engine, of course).

They did. There were several updates made to Opera 12 after Opera 15 came out. If fact, theres nothing preventing you from running Opera 12 right now. You can have it and newer versions of Opera installed on the same system without issue. You act like they prevent this or something.

I hope all old functionalities will be back in newer versions (including right click+scroll)

Some will return, other wont. You wont see an IRC client or email built into Opera for example. They've explained their reasons before so I wont repeat them here. Just

  • @someonepl,

You say: OK, I got it. Three clicks instead of two + not so comfy like an old trash can, but maybe I'll get used to it."

It's actually just two clicks. One click to open the menu (if you don't want to press the Alt key), and then just move the mouse cursor down to "recent tabs" because there's no need to click. The second click is clicking on the tab you want to open. If you press the Alt key (or Alt f) to open the menu, then you can simple do the rest (move the mouse cursor down to recent tabs) with just one click in selecting the tab you want to open.

  • Make new Opera like version 12, but with new engine.

It won't happen. They are/have been building a new browser with a different target.

can you tell me that target... Im not sure I can get it what the point of new Opera... please explain to me (of course reason to have better compatibility with websites is not reason its obviousness)

  • can you tell me that target.

Average user, in opposite of the (super) advanced ones of Opera Presto.

They want to target a major audience.

  • They want to target a major audience.

And I want to be superhero but reality is different. Truth is that new Opera didnt gain new users but upset the old ones and there is still only few percent of market for Opera like it was before. Nothing change but question is what will happend when old Opera users will migrate to somthing else...

No change with amount of user but upset old users... still whats the deal?

  • Truth is that new Opera didnt gain

Incorrect. Opera usage is on the raise, not falling.

    but upset the old ones

As Woodrow Wilson once said: 'If you want to make enemies, try to change something.'

No change with amount of user but upset old users... still whats the deal?

Every single time you post here its just to complain about stuff. Why bother? We can't change anything for you. You're just wasting your time.

  • Incorrect. Opera usage is on the raise, not falling.

I depends on what stats are you looking at but in average Opera stays about 1,4% maybe 1,5% of whole market.
+- 0,5% cant be cosidered rising or falling its just stats errors. Anyway:

    W3counter +0,8%
    Statcounter +0,5%
    w3school -0,3%
    netmarketshare -0,12%
    akamai -0,6%

In average its about +0,06% for 2 years its not really good at all. Also I didnt say that Opera is falling but stays the same.

  • Few months ago the idea of using browser other than Opera 12 wouldn't even cross my mind. After setting things up I gave it a try and now I'm glad they made that choice. It isn't the same but still no other browser does it like Opera!

Its just empty words... new Opera dont have any special features that others dont have. Changes between old and new Opera are that new Opera have less features than old one and same features are more complicated in new Opera.

  • You don't like the new Opera. We get it. We understand. You don't need to keep going on and on about it. Just stop using it, stop coming to this forum and spare us all.

Its not about If I like or not new Opera but about truth. New Opera dont have any special features. Its same as Firefox or Chrome... its just another browser with extensions, nothing speacial. Sadly lots of speacial/cool/good (whatever you want) features was lost and probably cant be replaced with extensions.

  • So what? You've said your piece. We've heard your opinion. You are beating a dead horse. Its not going back to the way it used to be. Deal with it. Move on. Get a hobby or something.

  • Running a browser (Opera 12) with tons of built in functions forcing everyone to use them wasn't a great idea. Sure we liked it at the time but still. The new Opera sure is not as easy but it can achieve far more than the old one in every way.

Forcing is not the right word. I was surprised when my friends tell me that they didnt even know about some features that old Opera have... for example mail, torrent, tab stacking, link, bookmarks, button customizations etc. The point is if you didnt want to use the features you didnt even know they are there... no forcing just free options and its always better to have more options. The new Opera is not that bad but there are lots of very annoying things like wired working features and lots of missing stuff or bad implemented stuff... download dialog, tab stacking, button customization, bookmark organization, missing mouse gestures... most of it its not hard to implement but it takes sooooooo long. 2 years is lots of time to implement at least some Opera standart features.

It is forcing, these functions will be running weather you use them or not. The only way to avoid that was by using another browser. Yes It takes time to put things together again and it is a free software after all. There are tons of ways to bring something similar to what you use to, you just have to search and ask or wait 😃

  • 😢 It lags a lot now in compare to the old Opera i think its because of the update in the features and the user interface which has changed in time now i have 3 gb ram on DUalcore and it still lags after like 4 tabs are open this is the version Im using of Opera: http://www.filesmag.com/2015/04/opera-web-browser-free-download.html

What are the things that new opera can achieve more so than old opera?

Old Opera wasn't that stable (one little thing goes wrong the entire browser crashes), the way it updates itself was pain, many sites are not fully supported..

What are the things that were so great about the old Opera?

    • Mail is the same just set shortcut to it.
    • Bookmarks are better this way and can be access just as quick (they built sidebar for you though).
    • Speed dial is much better now.
    • Inspecting and other tools are far better.
    • Right click the main bar to save you session as speed dial folder is just as good as sessions.

The only thing I miss is the notes function, nothing came close to that one.

That shouldn't be happening, for me compared to the old one now it is fast and super light.
