However, I have noticed that Opera can supply passwords to other apps. As this is fingerprint-protected, I thought I'd use that to open my PasswdSafe safe.

So I saved the password for my safe in Opera and tried to open it. When I do, Opera pops up and offers to supply the password, after validating my fingerprint. However, after that nothing gets pasted in the password entry.

I checked that I can copy/paste the password, so it appears that PasswdSafe is not the culprit. As I further test, I let Opera save the PIN number for a banking app and again Opera offers to supply the PIN, but then nothing happens, nothing gets entered.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, or how to make Opera enter passwords in other apps.

Can somebody help?

Here is some more information.

Yes, Opera is the only/default autofill device. It is the default browser, and no other service is trying to fill the password entry

I do not think PasswdSafe blocks it. I typed the password in Notes, copied it there, and pasted it successfully into PasswdSafe.

I have tried tapping the field and long-pressing but to no avail.

The phone is an Oppo Reno 11F, running Android 16.0.5.

I do not understand how I can make Opera fill passwords in Notes. When entering passwords or PINs in another app, Opera offers to save it. It does not do that for Notes.

A few things worth checking:

Only one autofill service can be active at a time on your phone, so check in your phone settings that the browser is actually set as the default autofill service, and that no other service is also trying to fill the same field.

Some fields, especially in security-sensitive apps, deliberately block filling or are not recognised as password fields, so the prompt can appear and still put nothing in. That would explain why it works with copy and paste but not with filling.

Try tapping the field first, waiting a second for the prompt, and then choosing the entry, rather than tapping straight into it. If that still puts nothing in, try the long-press fill option if your phone offers one.

For the safe itself, unlocking it from inside the password manager app is usually the more reliable route, since its own unlock screen is not meant to be filled from outside.

It would help to know which phone and system version you are on, whether the browser is set as your default autofill service, and whether filling works in an ordinary app, such as a notes app, so it is easier to tell whether this is a setting problem or a blocked field.
