Sync same Speed Dial on every device

  • You just need to copy the SD bookmarks from Other Speed Dials to the SD of your other machine.

BTW, a switch or a selector to select the behavior would be nice.

  • I completely agree on this 馃啓

  • You just need to copy the SD bookmarks from Other Speed Dials to the SD of your other machine.

Which is a manual copy that won't be synchronized further so it doesn't serve the purpose of this topic. (I know you get this, I'm just making it clear that this solution is not a solution at all for us.)

  • I'd also like to add that this also affects the case of someone reinstalling their Windows operating system. I haven't verified other devices after OS reinstalls or factory resets.

I didn't think to back up my bookmarks as I was synchronized and noticed the new Windows install showed up as a new folder in my sync.

Thinking I may be able to trick it only by name, I ended up with duplicate names in my folder entries.

    Pretty funky.

  • I too would like the option of syncing a single SD across multiple devices. However in another thread, gustavwiz suggested a more flexible option:

"That's because many want to separate their home and work speed dials. At the same time, many also want to have the same speed dial at some places. For example work speed dial on work computer, and home speed dial on home laptop and home desktop. That's why we want Opera to let the user be able to choose."

So a toggle/checkbox etc that lets a user switch between 'same SD on all devices' and 'unique SD on all devices' would not be sufficient for some.

I would love to see gustavwiz's suggestion implemented.

  • The problem with synchronization is that it is all-or-nothing. It would be nice if one could choose what to synchronize and what not to. If it could be optionally done one way and not both ways that would be nice as well.

  • Sorry, the whole comment about sync is all of nothing is for me an excuse. This is simple, allow determination of what is synced in every profile settings OneDrive does it, GDrive does it, Google Chrome does it. Come on Opera.

  • +1, why they removed this feature ? Speed dial was able to sync over devices before !

  • why they removed this feature ?

It was never implemented in Opera Chromium.

  • support 100%
I want thesame speed dial on my laptop than on my desktop.

this function can only make opera better.
with the box of letting them chose ofc.

  • Excellent request.

    I want this feature too.

    C'mon chropera team!

  • This is exactly what Opera needs!

  • Agreed, totaly hate not to be able to sync speed dials!!

  • Based off the lack of response the "simple" addition of this feature is likely more difficult than we are imagining. Anyone have an idea as to why it's more complicated than we're imagining?

  • @wkershner First, you should not expect responses from Opera, specially about suggestions an requests.
Second, we don't even know if they even started thinking about implementing it.

  • Yes, I agree, this feature is lacking in Opera and needs to be addressed. Cheers

  • This feature would be really useful because I would like some of my devices to share the same Speed Dials but some have their own ones. Unfortunately right now I have like a million separate Speed Dials )

  • I've managed to make that work.

    2 computers 1 SpeedDial.

  • I agree that this could be an option for synchronization.

But I strongly disagree this being a default behavior, i.e. not having speed dials folders as it is now. The way it is now is the exact behavior as I would expect and a top implemented feature. I don't want the same speed dials on my work and home PC, and actually need third set for my phone.

I wanted to try the new Firefox Quantum and had a terrible time making it work like this with the Top Sites similar to Opera Speed Dial feature.

  • I use different profiles for

    • Home
    • Study
    • Work
    • ...

Then, to share the same SD it's much more comfortable.

But as said, that would be a decision to leave to the user.
