We just updated the beta channel to Opera 29.

Although this was initially changed in the beta several versions ago, we’re now taking the final step to replace Off-Road mode with Opera Turbo.

Just like Off-Road mode, Opera Turbo offers you great data savings with its compression technology but Opera Turbo also gives you the full HTML5 browsing experience.

We’re continuing to add new features to our sync service. This time we’ve added a way to sync your devices’ open tabs.

This release contains:

Tab synchronization including a new view for synced tabs and a new layout in the tab manager

Improved text wrap

64-bit support

A new progress bar

Opera Turbo (replacing Off-Road mode)

A Chromium upgrade to version 42

Various stability and usability improvements

The update has been pushed to Google Play and should be available very soon. Please download Opera 29 for Android from Google Play and leave us your feedback.

@ppgghhjj no it works better just save less.. its more compatible and if you need more save than try opera mini or set images in low quality and add opera max .. this is full browser and if we need to choose between compatibility and more data save im sure that compatibility its priority for users. so new opera turbo is much better than off-road mode.. example pages like Facebook gmail youtube and newspapers are better for reading and navigate.. on off-road i had problem to use much pages.. Turbo2 is new and will be better in future and it will save more.. i like it and this is direction that Opera team will be working and develop in the future.

Thank you, I will keep 28. I agree with you that turbo's compatibility is better than off-load, and 29 has visible progress. Hope the team keep on the good job.

It was a lot of heuristics and tricks to try to mangle your web page into a single column of text... intended for the days when phones could just display a couple of lines of text.
Adding that to Chromium would certainly be possible, though I don't think it would be worthwhile. We have text wrap which essentially achieves the same thing but much better IMO. SSR would probably not behave very well on a modern web page.

Nope, Off-road and Turbo are two different things, you can take that mot à mot as for "final step to replace Off-Road mode with Opera Turbo". Now you can't ping opera mini servers with "debug:" URL.
