Old INTEL Macs (not with new M chips) can be "revived" by a project called OCLP (OpenCore Legacy Project). What it basically does is to patch many drivers (graphics and other) in order to allow installing the newest Mac versions not supported by Apple on old hardware.
An example is a Mac from 2014 with 16GB of RAM that according to Apple can only run smoothly MacOS 11 (BigSur) and with OCLP you could install MacOS 15 (Sequoia) on this machine and it will work quite smoothly.
As of Chromium ver.152 there has been some changes to the ANGLE and the support of WebGL. The result is that every Chromium based browser will fail to work with WebGL pages since it will not have the correct drivers and WebGL will be disabled on Chromium (everything is fine with Chromium versions prior to the latest 152). What it means that ALL Chromium based browsers are affected by this change on the Chromium core making them unusable for OCLP pached machine prior to 2017 (since they have built in METAL support and are not affected by this change).
The request is for Opera to find a way to continue supporting those machines in some way. I rely on Opera for my workflow and use it daily at work, If Opera will not find some way to reverse this Chromium decision I will be forced in the short term to switch browsers to Firefox that is not affected by this change. It is not the best solution since Opera is excellent for productivity and Firefox doesn't come close to that but Opera will cease to work on many pages forcing me to switch.
