I have been noticing for a while that there is a hidden opera authored extension 'enegjkbbakeegngfapepobipndnebkdk' for capitaloneshopping that can't be disabled.

This 'rougue' extension seems to get launched discreetly & then closed every time for every interaction made on opera. This despite the fact that i had disabled cash back setting in the settings a while back (in the current version the setting is not there only the one related to 'Show cashback badge in all workspaces' is present which is off)

My question is why is this extension getting triggered to do something on every interaction, what is the justification for this?

Why isn't this privacy intrusion stated clearly anywhere?

Is there a way to disable this in any way?

Thanks
Lmk

I notice that this extension gets triggered each time any tab is opened AND closed (even ones which are not loaded & closed by right click) and it appears anytime the tab one is on does some background activity. I haven't looked at the details of the 'special extension' (code) but it appears to be very intrusive. Frankly, i think the reason & nature of this extension & why it can't be disabled should be clearly stated....after all Opera has a better reputation than say Yandex or Edge (or even Chrome).

In Opera, some extensions that are installed through bundled software or system-level integration may appear as “authored” or hidden and cannot be easily disabled from the normal extensions page.

To deal with it, you can try opening Opera’s extensions manager (opera://extensions) and enabling “Developer mode” to see more details. If it still can’t be removed, check your system for installed programs related to Capital One Shopping and uninstall them. You may also need to reset Opera settings or reinstall the browser to fully remove the extension.

In short, this is not usually a virus, but rather a bundled extension with restricted controls; removing the associated software or resetting the browser is the most effective solution.

For what exactly is it needed, if I never need some wallet or shopping extensions in my Opera? If it is sponsors thing, then I can understand - but then say so too

Apologies for late reply but I was checking this case internally.
What you reported is a special technical extension for Opera's notifications. It works also for capitaloneshopping but not only.

So, this is an important part of the Opera's system and user's can't disable it.

Let me know, if it clarifies your questions.
