I have received the recent communication about removing support for Manifest Version 2. I understand the importance of updating extensions to remain compatible and I am willing to make the required changes.

However, I have a concern: my extension has several updates that have been pending review for many years. During all this time, I have never received approval, rejection, or any feedback that could help me understand the situation.

This raises a question: if extensions need to be migrated to Manifest V3, how can developers proceed when their existing updates are never reviewed or explained? The lack of review or feedback makes it nearly impossible to plan future updates or ensure compliance with the new requirements.

I kindly ask Opera to provide clarity on:

Why updates can remain pending for such a long time without any decision,

Whether there is a way to escalate review requests, and

How developers in this situation are expected to handle the transition to Manifest V3.

Any guidance or transparency would be greatly appreciated, both for me and for other developers facing similar issues.

Thank you,

Don't worry. I'll stay with Opera. I was only thinking. At least they are on more recent versions of Chromium, though. And they're modifying the UI heavily as well. It's also the browser that comes nearest to Opera in looks and features (and this is for a reason).

They had a weeks long outage of their servers in Decembre. That damaged their reputation of course. But the major drawback for me is the mail and calendar module. It reminds me of some by gone times, really. And their mobile versions especially on iOS is laggy and even buggy.

MV2 support would have been indeed costly because that would mean to repatch Chromium everytime. So waste of time, I get it, even Brave said they will try doing supporting MV2 as best as they can.

But at the same time, since Opera comes with an adblocker, in my opinion, they should improve it massively and even be able to use uBO's filters, like Brave does. The only MV2 addon I did care about was actually uBO, but Opera can try doing Brave's scheme, after all. uBO is gone from Opera, ok, it's gone, but that doesn't mean they should let their normal adblocker like that, and to be honest, just my opinion, the adblocker from Opera is bad.

They must have known that their ressources as @sgunhouse clearly stated are too limited to develop an independent fork of Chromium. So why this statement anyway? Even if they only say "we plan" they shouldn't have said the following, that users should be confident to use their non-graded add ons.

Not, that I'm much concerned about. I wasn't using Opera because of UBO. So yet, isn't it all about marketing, right? But they can't even cope with following Chromium releases. As of today we're still von Opera 120 with Chromium 135, while Chromium itself already is on 139.

They've gone into so many ways with GX, Air and now Neon, that I don't think they're prioritizing flagship One any longer.

Dear Developers,

This message is to inform you of important upcoming changes regarding Opera extension support.

Chromium, which powers Opera, is completely removing support for Manifest Version 2. If your extension currently uses Manifest Version 2, it is crucial that you update it to Manifest Version 3 as soon as possible to ensure continued compatibility.

We strongly advise taking action to update your extensions to Manifest Version 3 to avoid any disruption of service and to ensure a smooth transition.

--
Sincerely,
Opera Extensions Team
