Hello.

I am 'likely' missing a detail so, consequently, I would like someone to explain it to me.

Every morning, I check for updates manually to ensure that the latest version is installed.

However, when I click on the Browser Red Menu Button, 'Get 'The Latest Security Update' is listed with a red dot.

When it is clicked, it states ''Download Opera Browser,' and a 'See More' link, with a 'Opera Browser For Windows' option.

Please answer each question separately:

Q: Since the browser has the capacity to 'check for updates,' why is there an option to download the software again?

Q: When cookies are cleared and the browser is closed and reopened, one, the Browser Menu Button is no longer Red and, two, the 'Get The Latest Security Update' Message is not longer listed. Why is that?

I listed it in my initial post: 95.0.4635.90.

It does not make sense that I would be instructed to 'refresh' O weekly 'unless' an update 'of some form' took place.

From memory, the '95' did not change but the '4653.90' portion did so.

As mentioned, as recent as a week ago, after clicking 'Menu->About Opera,' an install occurred, and, consequently, I was instructed to restart Opera.

'Again,' I ask: Since Firefox uses an 'ESR,' does Opera have one as well (or an equivalent?).

If someone' can find out and update this post, all of us would appreciate it.

For the situations where the auto update is not working, is blocked or no longer supports the version, what seems to be your case.

Probably because the information was erased when you cleaned the cookies.

I should have been clear that I am running Win 7.

However, I am still able to 'manually' check (and install) updates though.

What is being 'updated' then? Firefox has an 'Extended Service Release'-Does Opera have an equivalent for Win 7 users?

As someone who is nor running at least Windows 10, you can't install any current version of Ooera - current being 117 for the main version (currently called Opera One after some UI updates in version 100).

Some "internet security software" (firewalls) seem to block the auto-check feature. Other than that the only way to block the update checker is to prevent it from being run automatically - it is normally set by the installer to run automatically but can of course be removed from the autorun list.

Opera updates automatically as well but, that stated, each morning I still click 'Help->About Opera' in order to check for updates manually.

However, there are others things updated when Opera checks. Opera has a list of workarounds for sites that behave poorly, aa an example. So even if your browser version is up to date doesn't mean there were no updates that occured.
