I'd really appreciate some simple and clear advice on how to add search engines (specifically start page, and duck duck go) to the browser so I can have alternatives to google. I use these browsers on my desktop & am happy prefacing searches with d or sp as required.
Have failed so far to find any help so am hoping a forumite will help...many thanks.

@stefl, on "Add Search Engine" is available when the keyboard is hidden. Unfortunately on duckduckgo.com it activates automatically, what probably caused you problems. So deactivate keyboard with the button in lower right corner and then long tap on the search field, you'll have "Add Search Engine" option. Then when you activate address bar, click on the Google icon over keyboard to change to DuckDuckGo. Unfortunately this setting is reset to Google when you restart the browser.

@mbaluta will the reset to google ever be an option to disable? I want DuckDuckGo as my default engine and it's a pain to reset each time. Nearly pushing me to stop using opera mini.

There's a glitch with DuckDuckGo search page but mbaluta has already provided the solution. I will repeat:

Go to duckduckgo.com

Tap on the search field

Hide the keyboard

LONG-TAP on the search field again

Select "Add Search Engine"

Works for me every time.

I've also been playing with Opera Coast - the opportunity to add a search engine there would be an acceptable alternative. So if anyone knows how to do that, I'd be grateful...

Have attempted to try the suggestions above. Can anyone please tell me if I'm wasting my time? Perhaps latest Opera Mini for iOS doesn't allow other search engines than google?

If I can have other search engines, please will someone offer me clear instructions on how to install one? Or else, point me at an article somewhere that will help? I've done a lot of looking so far...

Long press on search bar either produces something like a magnifying glass but no options of doing anything with it, or cut and paste and look up, but nothing to do with search engines.
