As you say, "you don't change the HTML of the webpage permanently." I even tried Opera, Page, Save as... and, though it allows you to hit Save, it does not save the file to the harddrive.

  1. Select Elements
  2. Select HTML element you want to edit
  3. Context menu "Edit as HTML"

But this is only on your computer, you dont change the HTML of webpage permanently.
