<![CDATA[Is HTML5Test.com A Little Biased?]]>One of the reasons I had switched to Opera as my primary was how they supported the newer elements, especially form elements. I still go to HTML5Test.com to compare things and always notice that Opera is just a few points behind Chrome.

Today I took a closer look. On this Windows 7 machine Opera 26 is 4 points behind Chrome 39. Three of those points appear to be due to Opera not supporting Speech Recognition compared to Chrome's prefixed. O.K. I'll accept that, but the fourth point difference is in the Web applications section. Oddly Opera has a no for custom search providers.

It looks to me that Opera supports custom search providers, or is there more to this spec?

Opera is trying hard to defend its users against search engine hijacking and thus isn't really interested in supporting this.
The specification even says that any browser is free to do nothing at all here. So implementing a function that doesn't do anything for the sake of having it is pretty senseless. Thus crediting points to such a feature at all is just wrong IMHO.
