First of all, let me say that I'm a fan of the Opera browser. Thank you for creating it!

I've recently switched to Mac (yes, it's an annoying process). There's only one issue that's really problematic—the ESC key. Whenever you press it, it activates the "Exit full screen" feature, which is incredibly frustrating. Consider how often you use ESC during normal computer use:

to abandon input in dialog screens

to abandon input in Google Docs and Google Sheets

to cancel file uploads

etc.

This behavior is truly unexpected. Check any software—ESC isn't meant for this purpose.

I've searched the Opera forum and found this issue raised and upvoted five times, but I couldn't find any suggestions on how to address it. Could you please advise on how to deal with this?

P.S.
This is a real deal-breaker. I had to download Chrome (which I haven't used in 7 years) to work with some pages (Google Sheets and Docs) where I need to use the ESC key. But I don't want Chrome! Please help me stay with Opera!

Many-many thanks!
Igor

Many thanks for your ideas. I find them very useful!

Still wonder if anyone from Opera team will have a look at this rather annoying complaint (which I believe is common across Mac users).

I'm also having the same problem, especially on google docs and what not.
As another mac user thats been using Opera for a bit now, the only thing that I can recommend you to do is:

not be in full screen mode
If you know what im saying, go ahead and just ignore this.
Basically what I would do is enlarge opera to fit the screen to its maximum BUT not be in full screen mode.
That way, when you press ESC button especially on websites like google docs/sheets, it won't become a small window.
I also find that this is quite annoying, so another thing I would also do is have 2 'desktops' open if you know what I mean, so you can switch to the other desktop to open other apps like finder and the like.
I know that it's not the best solution, but I hope that it helps a bit.
