I just got a new laptop and installed opera again but it has a weird sidebar and not nearly as many customization options as the one on my pc does, I don't like how it looks at all is there any way for me to get the old one back?

There are two main type, Opera One and Opera GX. I'd guess your desktop is Opera GX while the laptop is Opera One, but look at Help > About Opera to be sure.
