<![CDATA[Set Opera as Default Browser]]>I have Opera 26 installed on Windows Vista. I cannot set it as the default browser. I have tried through Opera settings but, each time a restart, it asks to be set as default. I have also tried through Vista Default Programs, Opera is not listed here. I did have Firefox installed (getting to be too slow!!) but have completely uninstalled this.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The problem is a little different than I first thought. Opera is acting as the Default Browser, I have checked the registry and it is ok. But, whenever I start Opera I get the following message under the toolbar:

Would you like to set Opera as the default browser? Yes/No, don't ask again

If I select Yes, the message still comes up the next time I start Opera

What happens if you go to settings and try to make Opera the default browser?

If you use the option to associate a file or protocol, it works ?

I selected the option to not make it available to all users. I have re-installed, but with the same problem. If I select Default Programs, from the start button, Opera is not listed.

Not sure about Vista but more recent versions of Windows may not allow you to set a program as default if it's not "regularly" installed.

So if you have installed Opera using the usb/standalone mode, it can't be set as a default program.
