<![CDATA[Opera installation fails (on Windows XP Prof.)]]>Windows tell there is a problem with Opera Installer and closed it.

I saw it on two different computers; one has older version of Opera,
so at least older version could be installed on it; possibly newer
version of Opera Installer needs some library not present here.

Here's your problem, you need at least a SSE2-capable processor to run recent versions of Opera and other Chromium-based browsers.

I think the newer you can get is Opera 22.

You could install an older version of Opera (even Opera), but you shall consider redistributing your browsing habits towards the one(s) that is (are) up-to-date, and in any case, sooner or later upgrading your computer to meet the new day.
I have a Chrome here, I use it as a major browsing browser. But - the latter being automatically updated, constantly - it feels/seems that my OS/machine are/is getting more and more troubled to handle even quite easy tasks very often.

Have tried to install 26 and when exe is downloaded and I hit 'install' or whatever, 'it' 'says' installer has encountered a problem or something like that and I can choose to send and error report to MS.

IIRC later versions of Opera will not install on older processors (a restriction caused by Chromium I believe, not by Opera.)
