I never had this issue in Kubuntu, but clicking links from Thunderbird, Notesnook, etc. the link opens to the right of a new tab (the one you first get to "set up" Opera, not the home tab you get when selecting new tab). I have searched through settings and found nothing that would cause this and Opera is the default browser. If I switch to Firefox as default, this does not happen. Any clue on why 2 tabs always open? Thanks.

There is a line in settings that Retain tabs from previous session has an option underneath:
Display the Start Page first
and this was toggled on. Once I turned that off, now only the linked page opens.
