Can't start Opera-Beta 26 in Linux

  • I downloaded latest Opera Beta 26 for Linux. (26.0.1656.17-2) DEB
Converted it to RPM with Alien (No errors)

Then i try to run it in terminal and get error:] The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera-beta/opera_sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755.

I got the same error when i installed Opera Dev 25, but by changing some file rights, it start to work. I don't remember what to do.

    Anyone know this?

I'm getting old. Of course its just doing what it said:

    sudo chmod 4755 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera-beta/opera_sandbox

    This fixed the problem! 🙂

  • I would not use alien. Read these instructions. Or for a more automatic solution, you could use this install script.
