I saw it on vivaldi's demo and liked it.

*Currently there's direct dependency between workspaces and sidebar. If I want using workspaces, I have to keep the sidebar enabled.

But in both Edge and Vivaldi this is located on tab strip and I provided screenshot from Vivaldi.
Personally, I find it logical because workspaces are directly related to tabs management. It could be on the right also side but there already reserved by searchTabs button.

Or even in a separated one outside of tabs bar.

And I think that tab islands are to be and can be used together with workspaces.

The main idea is to quickly view the dropdown with workspaces list and also be aware what workspace is currently selected without using the sidebar.
Or you mean that it'd better to place it as a separate button somewhere in toolbar or as an entry in OMenu.

*Workspaces feature seems more intuitive and clear to me than the islands for organizing tabs to avoid tab strip cluttering. It was unique feature but its improving stopped for some reason, drag and drop tabs into workspaces is still disabled by default. Now the feature is not unique anymore because workspaces are also in Edge and in Vivaldi already

A workspaces menu would be better.
