I submitted a bug report a month ago to add the ctrl and alt + click functionality back to "Go to web address". DNA-31781. Really disappointing that they break such a useful feature.

Right now, mouse and keyboard actions are very inconsistent and unpredictable. Sometimes, a new tab is opened, for example from bookmarks, open image, or search from right-click menu. But most of the time, the same tab is reused, which applies to links, speed dial, address bar, or go to web address.

Instead of being locked into one option, both should be available at all times. The default should be to always open in the same tab. New tabs should only be opened by middle-click instead of left-click, links and speed dial already behave like this, or by holding shift when selecting a menu or when pressing enter in the address bar.

Please refer to Opera 12 which worked exactly like this.
