<![CDATA[Deleting separate History entries is slow beyond any common sense.]]>As of somewhat recently (maybe a month, not sure), manual selective History cleanup became a stupidly annoying chore, because even single-entry deletion takes some 3 seconds per entry, and if I use a Search function to separate a group of entries, their deletion literally makes the entire PC overclock as if it's using up most of my Memory to do so.
Note: This is not caused by me having a months-worth clog of History. I deliberately checked it on a cleanly wiped History, and there was almost no difference, especially for the Search-related nonsense.
Also, Opera is known for years to be a Memory-eater for no valid reason, so I fully suspect it being yet another such bug.

I have found a solution to my problem:
In the Opera installation directory there is in the folder
"Profile" => "Data" a file called "History".

Make a copy of the file "History" (backup) and open
the original file "History" with an editor.
Delete everything in this file and save it, so that you now have an empty file.

Now just start Opera and test it.

For me the browsing history is now normal fast again.
I mean it is even faster than before.

I wonder that the file "History" contains entries and surfing traces, although you have deleted the history (everything) (?)

I also have has to crash the Opera.exe program several times for eating up all of my RAM. If these bugs are not fixed, I'm bailing out for a different browser. Still persists. Even the most newest update still "silently nudges" me to clean my History at least weekly, or the OP problem comes back. How about you actually fix the stupid coding that causes the number of entries to be a problem to begin with? Because if it was just a text file, I'm pretty sure there would NOT be ANY delays or problems. So who needs this dumb encoding anyways? I sure don't.

Deleting entries is extremly hard and besides that history tab is problematic as while. Multiple times I come up to a empty page when I open the history page.

actualisation & restore... with keping my data...
it solve the problem for now...
but first, sync what's important because this action deleted my bookmarks and all opened tabs...
history was untouched and extensions also

There's just one 2Tb drive (mechanical).

Anyway, I don't have this kind of problem with other browsers (I have Firefox and Edge installed, but I prefer Opera).

I personally can't reproduce the issue so far.

Are you using regular Opera or Opera GX or Opera Crypto or Opera Beta or Opera Developer?

What version of that Opera as see at the URL opera://about?

What version and build of Windows?

Anything special about your installation? Do you have your profile on another drive besides the system drive (goto the URL opera://about and take a look at the "profile" path).

On whatever drive it's installed on, is it an SSD or mechanical hard drive?

What does CrystalDiskInfo say for the health of your drive the profile is on?

Might want to check your system files for good measure.

You can make sure the file system on your drive is not corrupted. See the "How to Run CHKDSK With the Right Flags" section at https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stuck-chkdsk-use-fix-right-way/.

Make sure you can reproduce the issue in a test standalone installation too.

Maybe some of the info can help narrow things down why Opera is being slow at deleting history for some users.

I've posted my own complaint about this History issue a month or two ago - and I'm yet to receive a single response that Wasn't "well, then just delete your entire History".
