<p dir="auto">This would save me from having to explicitly star each and every discussion that I commented on (which I forget to do in about 80% of cases).</p>

<p dir="auto">Of course you can disable it, just clicking on the star again "un-stars" it!<br />
joshl obviously uses the stars for the specific purpose for which they were presumably intended, but if you're following a thread because you're interested in it, the chances are that you would have also posted in it anyway!<br />
All the other forums I use in fact automatically subscribe you to any thread that you post in, usually with a global setting in your profile to disable this behaviour if you don't want it. That is the ideal, but I'm not holding my breath for that here!<br />

Go back over this one discussion as an example and note his posts. Most of them are relatively meaningless in light of the thread's topic of discussion. Therefore, I wouldn't take his response to your comment in a serious vein. Personally I agree with you... that if starring a post is the only way in which to receive notifications when people comment on a discussion in which I commented THEN this should be done automatically.</p>

It's also bad IMO that you can't immediately see from the thread list which threads you've posted in.<br />
You shouldn't have to go to your profile to see that information.<br />
