However, Opera is generally considered a secure browser and has unique features that may make it more secure in certain situations.

That being said, all major web browsers, including Opera, Chrome, and Firefox, have implemented a variety of security measures to protect users from various types of online threats. These measures can include features such as sandboxing, phishing protection, and automatic updates to fix vulnerabilities. It is important to keep your web browser up to date to ensure that you have the latest security features and fixes.

In general, it is a good idea to use a reputable web browser and to take other precautions, such as keeping your operating system and other software up to date and using a firewall and antivirus program, to help protect your device and your personal information while online.

So for me, Opera is the clear winner here.

Honestly both have issues of their own. But both of them stand as a viable alternative to Google Chrome.

Opera is a web browser that is generally considered to be secure, but it is not necesarily more secure than chrome or Firefox. All major web browsers have security measures in place to protect users from threats such as malware, phishing attacks, and other online dangers. It is important for users to keep their web browsers up to date with the latest security patches and to use caution when browsing the internet in order to protect themselves from potential threats.

It's worth noting that security is an ongoing process, and no web browser can provide complete protection against all potential threats. Therefore, it is important for users to be aware of the risks and to take steps to protect themselves, such as by using a reputable antivirus program and being cautious when clicking on links or downloading files from the internet.

Roughly speaking, you'd say that Opera is as secure or safe, as a browser can be, as long as you keep it updated. In this respect Chrome and Firefox may be a fit faster in updating, as they're the creator of the browser engine, Chromium for Chrome and Gecko for Firefox.
Opera in itself is only a Chromium fork, nevertheless a very good one in my eyes. So are Brave, Edge or Vivaldi.
But if you ask, is Opera a private browser, even more so than Chrome? Then the answer may be: No. Both of them are not very private. Given that they of course shelter your privacy from other people's curious eyes, they themselves, Google and Opera, make money from data that they get from you. That's no mystery, actually. It's their business-model. That doesn't necessarily mean, they are doing very shady things. It's not illegal. But they're both in the advertising business.
A major concern may be, that Opera Software is owned by a Chinese firm, Kunlun, which is located in Beijing. This gives lot of people headaches and it's not totally comforting. Otherwise no data breach has been reported so far.
If you want the spirit of Opera with a more private touch, being secure as any other browser, you might want to consider using Vivaldi, which is the brainchild of Opera's creator who's left the firm.
I like both of them. Opera is a more streamlined browser. Vivaldi can be customized in incredible ways, but might be confusing to the average user.
Firefox always is a very secure and very private alternative, but is going rather marginal lately.
I hope, that helped a little.
