i was gonna say some addons for firefox do that and i'm sure they are available on opera. I only use a few, just because most of them are a bit much or rather unnecessary. For example the volume thing. I have a volume on my speakers, and on my laptop, and on windows and on youtube.
In Opera I was able to set the ctrl+M key to mute the tab, like it should have already been. I expect they remove these features because most ppl do not use them and it makes for a more streamlined browser.
And so 'addons', or extensions.
I'd like one to customize the toolbar in opera gx, or maybe find a different browser, though I've heard only firefox has it. sad
anyway... lol
there are volume 'apps' you can get for windows to make it better if windows won't do it, like a shortcut for volume. All my newer keyboards have a volume knob or buttons.

I used it constantly. But I don't know if it's a function of YouTube or Opera. I think it came as a test feature on YouTube some time ago. I found a plugin that does the same thing, but I wanted to enable the original feature.

rather set up a shortcut for your main volume so it works in any situation

I think it would be awkward to try to scroll to only lower the volume.
