I admit it has been a bit old. Nevertheless would like to bring the same to the kind attention of moderators because there is no Report Abuse option.

I am confused why it shows my name as the first one to join the room.

However I have given a heads-up on NodeBB's own community over here yesterday itself:

https://community.nodebb.org/topic/16575/potential-bug-in-forum-private-messaging?_=1658382541889

Nodebb is open source and they have a public bug tracker here: https://github.com/NodeBB/NodeBB/issues
Given the volume of the backlog I wouldn't get my hopes up that this will be treated as a priority, but there's no harm in trying

But first it would be good to confirm on https://community.nodebb.org/ that the newest version (I assume they run their own forums on the latest release) is also affected by this behavior - since we're a few minor versions behind here.

Let me know if you have a GitHub account and are willing to push this forward yourself or should I.

Perhaps this should be something we could highlight to #NodeBB for them to assess a feasibility of addressing the same.

Just tried this with a couple of my accounts. I think that's just a result of some internal logic in NodeBB (our forum's engine) - the receiving user is always shown first when you initiate a new chat conversation with someone. It is a bit counterintuitive, I can definitely agree with that.
