<![CDATA[Strange opera 12 text issue]]>Im having some strange text related issues with opera 12.* All text seems to overlap and is unreadable, but only on some webpages. Picture link from youtube comments here http://imgur.com/1irCqiL

As you can see it's not pretty. I have tried uninstalling and deleting the ..\roaming\Opera\ folder. No luck. It's driving my crazy, and i bet it's just a simple issue or something i have overlooked.

That string is embedded in opera.dll, and the original one is becoming stale... that is, a growing number of websites reject it for that reason, since Firefox itself is up into version 30+ already. Since Opera ASA is not updating such things in Presto Opera any longer, the only way to keep the when-needed masking alternative reasonably current is for the user to do it himself.

Download any hex editor, ie http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm
Patch opera.dll by following the instructions https://forums.opera.com/post/49301
Right click on the "Comments" section -> "Frame" > "Open in New Tab"
"Site preferences" - "Identify As Firefox"

    Thanks, that fixed YT at least, but it broke paypal. I guess i will finally have to move out of opera

    1. Use selective masking via override.ini! Paypal wouldn't be affected.
    2. Don't apply global masking via opera:config#UserPrefs|CustomUser-Agent. It can cause problems with other web-sites.

    Not a long ago, Google removed Opera/Presto support and blocked proper functioning of their web sites in Opera 12. But if you set a proper masking you can get the most of Google's resources working in Opera 12 again!

    Also, add the user-agent masking for "google.com" by editing override.ini and using this custom User-Agent string: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:32.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/32.0 Opera 12.16

    And you'll get:

    Working Youtube's comments (displaying and commenting)
    Working Plus.google.com portal
    Valid google search engine (instead of simplified half-functional design) with the most of functions working (such as "find similar image") again.

It's crazy to try and keep an old, discontinued browser going...hoping that it remains secure and hoping that no more sites will pose issues. It only makes sense that these current issues are going to become more and more pronounced as time goes by.

It has happened on other sites aswell. But the errors do not appear in other browswers, or even in Opera 24

Not tried on the 'Discussions' tab you're on, but any video with comments on it. The video and related videos look fine, but comments are skewed.

    Enabling or disabling fit to width does not resolve the issue.

    I'd say this happened up to a week ago. Definitely an error on Youtube's fault. But Google likes to switch around designs every other month, so no surprise, really.

Toggle fit-to-width using Opera's Fit-to-Width button or by checking/unchecking the box at Shift+F12 > Webpages > at "Page zoom", check/uncheck the "Fit to width" box > OK.
