<![CDATA[Opera using a lot of disk activity reading opera_browser.dll]]>For some reason, Opera GX is constantly reading from the file "opera_browser.dll". What's annoying is that, because of this bug (or "feature"), Opera essentially kills my HDD whenever it opens. What's even more annoying is the fact that the file it's constantly reading from is ~150 MB in size. Why not load this file into RAM instead of constantly using the hard disk? Yes, I'm sure Opera GX was built with fast SSDs in mind (where this bug wouldn't really affect anything), but still, this is a terrible design choice. Moreover, I actually don't know if this is a bug or if this is intentional. If it's a bug, can I work around it? If it's intentional, why the heck is it designed that way?

Without using Opera daily read activity on my SSD stays at 2 to 3 gigabyte. With Opera it can reach 20 gigabytes a day. Read activity on SSD is not that much trouble as write activity, but still...

As i understand, each active process of opera.exe in one way or another does read opera_browser.dll. If it was just one process, or at least .dll placed in RAM, it will be just a 150mb read from SSD\HDD on browser start. But with 5 or 10 opera.exe(s) it goes up to 1gb and more. And then, when you close and open browser again, it does it again.

Exactly. Also, I'm saying it's a bad design choice because that file could easily be loaded into RAM, so it could not only be accessed faster but save disk bandwidth.

I'm not having any issues with my Opera GX on Windows 11.

Probably because you're using an SSD. I'm unfortunately stuck with a mechanical hard drive, which might explain why it's so slow.

You mean Opera slows your drive performance to a crawl when it's open because of the disk activity of reading opera_browser.dll? Or, are you just worried about reads hurting your SSD?

I noticed your post, but I'm not having any issues with my Opera GX on Windows 11.
