Could someone from Opera team clarify this thing? I have the same symptoms as a topic-starter had. Mac M1 50-60% CPU usage by this extension. I really don't like even the idea that there might be malware, which prompts me to change the browser.</p>

In some (russian) forums I noticed recommendation to clear last month data (cache etc) and update Rich Hints Agent to latest version.<br />
I would think (not sure of course, just an idea) that this extension downloads some third-party scripts and sometimes those scripts are a bit evil.</p>
<p dir="auto"><em>It would be very helpful if Opera could tell us, what exactly those hidden non-removable extensions do, otherwise at least I qualify them as mild malware.
