I've successfully done that from one Windows machine to another, but am expecting issues across OSs.

Do I need to edit/delete/rename some files in the Opera Software directory and to which path should they be copied?

I have the latest Opera installation on Mint but have not yet run / opened the software.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

If something needs your attention, you will see the Sync icon with a (red) warning sign on the top right.

In opera://sync-internals, you can see how Synchronization is running by checking the board on the right.

This continued after I put the device into suspend mode. I've not seen this effect on Windows machines with copied profiles and have no idea what caused it. Closing one of the windows via the task bar stopped the focus issue and the migration now appears complete.

Thanks for the help.

Deleting all the contents and copying it over was partially successful, but caused some instability on the older device.

I then tried Sync using a simpler/smaller profile, but it wasn't very intuitive. There were no controls (e.g. log out) and no status or progress indications when both devices were connected, nor any indication that they were aware of each other and had initiated a 'sync'. Also, the synchronisation according to the selected options did not occur.

Check https://help.opera.com/en/latest/crashes-and-issues/#backup for more info about the files and folders in the profile directory. The page may not be updated but still gives good information.

History is visible but session and tabs are ignored and appear to be stored/formatted differently in Linux. I tried deleting session which Opera created on first run, but this just leads to a single empty page.

I'm trying to pick up the Windows session where I left off.
This directory copying works very well across Windows machines.

You will have to use Sync if you want to have your saved passwords in the new OS.

For the majority of the other things, just copying the contents of one profile directory to the other should be enough.
