I was just browsing a website and then Opera said I was using an out of date version of the browser, it then downloaded a JS file without asking for my permission
the file was Opera.Update.b48ae7.js. Is this a legitimate file?

Most of those warnings are scams or malware. You're better of deleting or ignoring the file.
