TruOpera: Side Panel

• You can close a tab from the Windows panel via the mouse - either right-click > Close or middle-click. Via the keyboard ... well, you can always use the menu key or Shift-F10 to show the context menu, but it would be nice if there were a better way.

• ...from the Windows panel...

WITS?

• O'k, Sidebar:
You happy?

Still confused actually, aren't sidebars and panels the same thing?
How are you getting that list of "windows" in your sidebar, I can't see any way of doing that!
Just interested because I didn't think you could do that.
🙂

• @davehawley, Click the '+' button in the tool bar at the top (inside) of the panel and you should see a list of things you can insert in to the panel (Bookmarks, Mail, Contacts etc), and 'Windows' is one of them options.

I thought so too!!!

It's an image from the net! 😕
Still it's simple: heed the icons on your sidebar - what do you see? (hint - neerer the bottom end (depending on your set though))
I too have a "Windows" folder (or similar) in my bookmarks, so...:P

• Linux, the last built (that I have and am referring to) came up to me with some already preinstalled shit. Like some search engines (in the box), bookmark folders, panel items...
There were no "Windows" there, IIRC, though.

• Windows is built-in but not displayed by default. Old Opera terms, the "sidebar" was the Hotlist, items which can be displayed in it are hotlist panels. I always turned off History, Links and Downloads, and enabled Info and Windows. And added the mobile view of my weather site with Small Screen mode enabled, and the TOC from opera:help

• Well that's interesting, "Windows" was not available on my Opera as something that could be added to panels when I looked earlier, but I've just looked again, and now it is!
I don't know what would have suddenly enabled it, the only thing I did was toggle between different skins, but that certainly didn't bring it back immediately.
Anyway, I can finally now see what joshl has been talking about!

You seem to be able to close a tab from there by right clicking on the entry in the panel and selecting "close", but there doesn't seem to be a keyboard shortcut associated with it.
Perhaps it would be possible to set one up in the ini file.

Ah, Hotlists. Now you're making me all misty-eyed!
🙂

• You seem to be able to close a tab from there by right clicking on the entry in the panel and selecting "close"...

Where exactly should I place the cursor? (I'm not with Opera right now.)

• On the entry for the tab in the panel.
Don't do it on the top entry, which appears to show the name of the active tab, or Opera will completely close!
🙂

• On the entry for the tab in the panel.

Icon on the very bar?
It seems to me that I did. There were three options, and none of them resembled what we're talking about, IIRC. (Note that I have this built "localised" like pseudorussian, so... But if you mean the last, third item (option), that one 'sounded' to me like "remove from panel" not "close" (Or was it third?).)

• I've got Activate, Restore, Minimise, Maximise, Pin Tab, Close, and Reload, in that order, if I right click on the panel entry for a tab.
🙂

• ...if I right click on the panel entry for a tab.

On the icon???
I have nothing that way. Almost.
(Although, when I opened Opera now, nothing booed me. 😕 )

• I have 'Activate'| 'Restore', 'Minimise', 'Maximise'| 'Pin Tab'| 'Close'| 'Detach'| 'Reload' when I right click on an entry in the 'Windows' section of the panel.

Oh, and don't forget joshl, we are all running different version of Opera Presto, Me 12.14, you 11.52 if I remember correctly ?, and Dave is running 12.17 as far as I know. So there will be differences.

• ...and don't forget joshl...

I won't.
(It's .63.)

• Give us a screenshot of your menu, Josh.

The furthest left entries are windows, next are either tabs or groups. If it's a group, the items below that are tabs. Not sure what a detached tab looks like (on versions which still allowed it) ... either way, something without a "+" or "-" is either an empty window or a tab. Get one of those programs that'll take a timed screenshot, right-click on a tab (in the panel) and wait for the screenshot.

• My leftest bar is fairly like that leftest in the image - in principle.
What'd you like? The context menu on them icons?

That I've no idea what're you talking about.

• Do you use Windows? The free image viewer/editor Irfanview can be set to take a screenshot x seconds after you click the button, so that you have time to arrange the screen as desired. Or then there's the dedicated screenshot program Pesala was always recommending, Faststone Capture or whatever it was. (I suggest Irfanview so that you don't need a separate program to crop the unwanted parts.) Though technically you can do it with your PrtScr key and Paint, but last I saw Paint wouldn't save as JPEG or PNG ...

There's the Net.
I'll "crop" next time... Do you like the context menu of the leftest buttons/icons???

• Tabs - furthest right.
