It seems Opera does not set and/or read cookies with https connections. I noticed that with Wikipedia where I get constantly redirected to the mobile site (de.m.wikipedia.org/...) when using a safe connection while I stay on the desktop version when using a normal connection. I believe WP safes the preference in a cookie. Can someone confirm this? It might be that something else is the reason for this behavior. Any way around it?
