I resent the use of my bandwidth when webpages download video content, and have to pause it, to stop it from playing. I would like to be able to block any such content from even downloading, let alone playing. Can this be done in Opera? Are there an add-ons which would do this for me, if not configurable in Opera proper?

I would like to block such downloads, so that they don't even start, and thus cannot use any bandwidth. I prefer to read content, not view it as a video.
