Spammers seem to like the weekend. 🙂

No need to necropost, Josh. A spammer had posted here, I killed it - but the thread still stuck near the top.

            What did you mean exactly?
As for my little joke, I hope a rare spicing comment won't harm, will it? 🙂

The thread that comment was in ... the last post was before yours was what? June? Admittedly when I banned the spammer the thread should have dropped down and didn't, so there's a bug there ...

                June?

I have no idea. As a rule, I don't lurk in the bosoms - the thread was up.

Any chance of having a Report/Block button back in the forums?

Especially for reporting spam, rather than poor old volunteer mods having to trawl through each subforum

                  Thanks!

Already exists, for what good it does. The menu on the gear icon includes "Flag" (meaning as spam, inappropriate, etc.) but we have no way to see the reports.

Honestly, trawling the forums is easier than you might think ... but without actual notifications I personally do so about once an hour when I'm online.

                      I have spent dozens of minutes and have earned metres of blisters typing the reports... ;_;

Moderators should have the "Notify me when a comment is flagged." option in "Edit preferences" on your profile. You can choose to have either an email or an on-site notification (i believe the latter disappears after a few seconds though). Let me know if you don't see these options.

Andreas, the two options are either burdening or likely to miss.
Why not have a section in profile? Or like that.
Imagine: a report board. Not personal - shared for every moderator.
It's easy: like shadow forums where only flagged posts are visible; even with the "reason" on a hover.
Even I can write that (I started learning HTML a week ago)!

Not there, sorry. Per comments elsewhere, a simple panel we can look at would be nice, so that we don't have to get emails while we're asleep, at work or otherwise unavailable only to find the threads already gone when we get here. My mail provider has been known to consider notification emails as spam ...

I believe i've fixed the setting now, so it's available to moderators. Can you check again?

As for the panel, something like that exists, although it doesn't manage flagged content yet. The ability to manage flagged content is on it's way, but unfortunately the plugin we'll use doesn't remove flagged content out of the list once stuff has been deleted. So we end up with a large list of flagged content, where most of it has already been dealt with.

We'll release that as described, and then hopefully we'll be able to change it so it removes deleted content from the list when it's deleted from the forums. We'll also add a link to this moderator panel when we release this.

Additionally, moderators would see online stati of other mods - and their latest location on site -- to prevent ineffective elbowing - thus make the whole procedure swifter (for both users and mods): a mod came and sees another mod is in the subforum "Blablabla" - then he (she) goes to another subforum where spam has been also reported. :sherlock:

                                    Okay, there now.

Currently Josh, I'm not "in" a subforum. I pull up all the recent posts and look for suspicious titles or usernames.

                                      I say what?
There are posts that may hang here for days. I saw one or two.
I can see them - I'm a linguist by nature, I enter them and report them - nobody sees it, right?

Andreas, another scenario: moderators see the same board as others - but flagged with red numbered icons - reports on each board; entering them, mods can see same threads - but reported ones are red or like that. Additionally, they can have a sorting tool - like "show reported first" - to easier see everything at once.
Also, I could suggest autoflagging - providing there's a filtering automaton on site.

Obviously it is harder for me to spot spam in Russian, Polish, etc. ... but that doesn't make me in a subforum. Though something that is obviously spam I'll remove even in I can't read all the words - I did get lots of practice in the old Community.

I wasn't talking about knowing languages. However it can be a case, too - for our users in general.
