<![CDATA[Websites sometimes open in a new tab, sometimes in the same one]]>While surfing via Opera GX I confronted a weird "new tab opening" mechanic/bug – it randomly switches from "I, the Great Opera, will open this link in a new tab" to "huh, 2 is kinda too much tabs to have, user_name, so I will open your beloved whatever.com right in this same tab".
It is very uncomfortable, as I used to simply close unnecessary tabs. Couldn't find any solution in Settings.

Opera doesn't have a setting to override the sites decision about if links will be opened in the same tab or not. However, you can use, for example, middle click to open a link in a new tab.
