Defaulting Search Engines

I saw related postes regarding this, but has there been a clear explanation why added/other search engines cannot be made the default browser?

I am aware you can use the keyword function, but that is not the same.

@leocg what is the reason given? Like why can't Qwant be made a default, for example?
