Opera doesn't seem to do this, and I'm baffled why not.

I google the problem until I'm blue in the face but I still haven't come across a solution, so here are my questions:

Is there a way to set this up in Opera?

If there isn't why doesn't Opera use such a protocol - ALL other browsers do?

if Opera even aware that some of us users regard this as a problem?

This also drove me crazy looking for a solution.
Open preferences for the Mail app. (Click dropdown menu Mail|Preferences)
Then change Default Mail Reader to Mail.
Restart the browser.

Now when you click on a mailto link, the mac mail app will open.

I suppose you can set which program will handle a protocol or file type.

Which 'mailto' protocol? If Opera has one, I can't find the settings. And IF there is a user setting, Opera should make it a damn sight more obvious. That's the whole point of posting here. I googled 'Opera mailto' settings and nothing has come up.
Just had Another check and Nowhere in 'Advanced' is there a setting to set the mailto protocol. For all I know there might be one in the Windows version of Opera but I use Macs.
