As for what we can do? Report to Opera and see what they do.

It is quite curious that it suddenly dropped its throughput to 1Mbps up and down (maybe a month ago? 6 weeks?).

It is free, maybe I’ll look at paying? There are some good articles about how to build your own and I might go that route. Not sure.

If I final an actual solution, I’ll post it here.

The post you referred to is 2 years old. Opera VPN was giving me 6 to 7 Mbps for a year until it stopped recently. Could it be that somebody pull the plug now to force people to buy a private service? I have trusted the Opera group for a long time. What to do now is the question?

There is a reddit thread that mentions Opera sold the vpn (https://www.reddit.com/r/operabrowser/comments/7neb3f/opera_vpn_is_too_slow/)

I realize the VPN is free, but as someone else mentioned, this is way too slow.

Going to make my own or pay for one (Yes, if I build my own, it'll cost me).

Like Opera, but Opera be a bit more transparent on this.

VPN slowing down the internet performance by 96% (from 20.61 m
Mbps to 0.81 Mbps). This started only a few weeks ago. Is anybody else experiencing a drop in performance this dramatic? Any advise for its resolution?

Hello.
VPN speed has dramatically dropped recently. My connection allows 500Mbps and getting more than 5Mbps has been a challenge ans this change is recent. No more than 4 or 5 days. I understand that using a VPN affects my connection speed but this drop is recent and 5Mbps is nowhere acceptable. Surely this must be a problem. Before this change I don´nt recall what speed provided the VPN but It was much faster because I've noticed that browsing became a lot (a lot!) slower.

Did anyone experienced the same change?
