<![CDATA[Opera 23 stole my bookmarks]]>Today I needed to reinstall my Opera 12 because is started to behave strangely. So thought I might try out the new Opera next or 23.. whatever.

So I imported my bookmarks with opera link and after some time I figured out that the new Opera is worse in every possible way and wanted to change back.

But now my opera link page is completely blank. There are no bookmarks synced any more.

I still have them in the shitty 23 version but cant find a way to export them. My last backup is pretty old so I would lose a lot of bookmarks.

Please help!

After some time I checked my link page and there was only the opera folder that comes with every new installation.

Here are my actions step by step:

  1. Install Opera 23
  2. Import bookmarks and passwords
  3. See that there is no sidebar
  4. Deinstall Opera 12
  5. Install Opera 12
  6. Try to import Stuff again
  7. All gone

How did you do step 6? Just by enabling Link?

I agree. Sorry you had this problem, but when it comes to backups, always do it manually. Never trust automatic backup systems.

And people should also remember that Link is not a backup toll but a sync one.

Lets hope that some day I can export the bookmarks. That will be the last time I use Opera.
It makes me sad after all these years. All the times I had to defend my choice of browser on several occasions. To me opera was superior to all the alternatives, but now it all went down the drain.

12 is outdated and 23 is a joke.

Don't know. What exactly did you do? Have you deleted your bookmarks in Opera 12 while Link was on?

Trusting Opera to save some files in the cloud for a few minutes was stupid.
