While watching Youtube, I got a notification on the sidebar from one of my messengers, and opened it. It covered half of my Youtube video which was fine, as I was focusing on the messages. As I was finished with messaging, I wanted to get back to the video and just assumed I could hide the sidebar with the Escape key, but I couldn't. I immediately went to the settings to see if a hotkey, perhaps not Escape, worked to accomplish this. No such hotkey, and it seems like a simple solution that would go a long way for me. I'm all about hotkeys, so having a way to max/min the sidebar would make it much more intuitive.

Concisely:
Request: Hotkey [KEY] Maximize/Minimize most recent sidebar window
Benefit/Payoff: People don't use features that are not intuitive. Making the sidebar pleasant to use makes it more likely to be used than ignored. As a major reason for me downloading Opera GX, I feel this is of great import.

Please ignore this request if I've missed it. If I have missed it, please let me know!

@leocg that does work if you only have one social tab, but I have several. When you have multiple it opens one of them, and then if you hit the hotkey again it just cycles through the rest of them. It's a solution to the opening the sidebar, but not a complete fix unfortunately

Support here is terrible @dmccormick

Anyway, it does cycle between different but there's a way to hide and don't cycle.
When you press Ctrl + Shift + M, it opens and if you keep releasing and pressing M, you will cycle, correct? To close, all you have to do is release for a second (or less) all the buttons not just the M key and press them again. You will see that this closes the panel.

Unfortunately I don't see how to assign a hotkey just for closing, you have to do this

Currently if I get a notification on my Facebook Messenger, it shows up as a red dot on my sidebar as I have notifications enabled. So to then read the message, I have to left click on the sidebar on the Messenger icon. That will bring up a little window on the left side that lets me read the messages. Now that I have read the message, I no longer need it open. To close it I have to left click outside of the Messenger window. I believe a hot key to accomplish this would be more intuitive, and would be more efficient.
