In my case it happens in Opera 24, it's been working fine in 12.x</p>

<p dir="auto">With Opera 12.16, the only advice I can offer (besides changing your desktop theme) is to disable desktop integration by setting Dialog Toolkit to 4. Unfortunately the text colors appear to be hard-coded in parts of the UI. If the issue is limited to lists such as the message list in the mail client you can disable the alternating color bars by changing Color List Row Mode to ... I think it was 2, but I'm not completely certain - try 3 if 2 doesn't work. (Both of these are in opera:config.)</p>
<p dir="auto">I'm not really familiar enough with 24 yet to offer advice there.</p>
