<![CDATA[Opera makes new desktop icon at each startup. Why??]]>I was able to stop the duplicate icon creation as follows:

  1. Open Windows Settings --> Apps --> Default Apps --> Web Browser
  2. Change default browser in settings from Opera to another browser and exit
  3. Re-open Windows Settings and change default browser back to opera.
