In some cases, they will go so far as to block the IP address of known VPN servers (possibly including Opera) so users can't even get that far. Otherwise, if you can successfully connect to a VPN, what you view (and which sites) will be as secure as https encryption security can make it. However, be aware that the mere fact you are using a VPN to view something is discoverable by monitoring your network traffic, in case there are prohibitions against using a VPN. As to whether/which streaming websites would work over a VPN might depend on the individual site itself and whether they sniff for such things.
